What I feel is Indian political system harbinges on vote count that is used to exploit people feelings,nepotism is rampart.

BARE TRUTH is reservation should be based on ECONOMIC criteria and not on SOCIAL criteria I mean you could not say today because your forefathers were socially upbeaten in society but unfortunately your first generation siblings are riding mercedez and heralding 50 hectares of productive land and luckily tagged as SC, ST or OBC so as to clear IAS with golden ease.

Here I cite China, two nations and plethora of researches comparing two nations exists in foreign literature citing reasons for why India compared to China is falling back even when both countries started reforms simultaneously.
China reservation is driven by economic criteria. Government gives facilities to people abiding by one child norm, and only one government job per family.

So what I want to highlight is technology driven professions count on intellectualism which is inherent in learning process. So make grounds fertile (provide them with infrastructure, money, facilities) for the so tagged officially backward classes so that when time is ripe (when time comes for competitive exams and job openings) they should be driven by merit alone.

SOLUTION
suppose as an xample take CAT wch is held in nov....let d govt have a pre CAT xam in (say) jan for all d OBCs n STs etc...and all those who get above 94percentile...let d govt sponsor their classes or tution fees n study material so tht they can prepare the way we do...this step needs no reservation, helps d cause of d underpriviliged n no need of xtra infrastructure..only money's reqd
